What's in my pocket?

iPhone
Cell phone, internet access, calendar, etc. It's my world in one place.

Keys
For house and mailbox.

Pens
To write with

Stack of index cards
Notes, ideas, etc. Part of my GTD system.

Lip balm
Oh, those chapped lips...

My first job: food service

 Ah, the "first job" question!

My first job was as a pizza deliverer for Domino's pizza. I got SO ripped off. I had no clue as to how things worked. Typical scenario:

Boss: We've got an order in. Somebody clock in and take it.

Boss: Okay, clock out and go do dishes.

You can see what affect this had on paychecks...

I think, in retrospect, that my dad knew that something was up as the paychecks didn't quite (hah) match the number of hours that I worked.

Anyway, I was out delivering one day and I got involved in an accident:

I was driving behind a van in the right-hand lane when I decided to change lanes. As I pulled into the middle lane, a young lady in the left lane pulled in almost into my lap. I swerved back to miss hitting her, but hit the van instead. The van had slowed because someone in front of him was turning into a parking lot.

Van had a 1 inch dent in the left rear bumper. My entire right front quarter panel looked like crumpled tin foil. My car!!! *sniff*

So I quit. The pizza sucked, the workplace sucked, my paycheck sucked.

I went to work (eventually) for Mr. Gatti's pizza, delivering. Now that was fun. Good pizza, good pay, didn't get screwed, got hourly + delivery + tip. Pretty schweet.

Work and job

Well, rumor has it that Merrill Lynch/Bank of America is going to lay off about 10,000 people. Yep. Ten THOUSAND people.

And while I feel secure in my job, I’m still lookin’.

* it doesn’t pay enough
* I don’t see any career path - looks kinda dead end

Anyway, I have a job interview on Wednesday. Fingers crossed, I’m hoping for the best.

My vote has been cast..

So, election day can come and go - my vote has been cast, along with hundreds of thousands of Americans who are voting early.

This can only mean one thing - that the tide has turned and the fear- and war-mongering and the slander and the lies and the hatred that have plagued this wonderful country for the last eight years is on its last legs.

In the end, it’s not about who’s right or who’s left, not about who’s white or who’s black, who’s blue or who’s red - it’s about what’s right for the people of our country.

What is right?

Right is restoring the Constitution as the foundation of this country - not eroding it a little at a time with a complicit court
Right is restoring the freedoms that we have surrendered in the name of fear
Right is restoring the privacy of Americans, not that we have anything to hide, but that it’s just none of your damn business!
Right is restoring the hope of a people who have been battered into submission with the club of terrorism
Right is restoring the respect of a nation that once was a shining beacon
Right is restoring the ideal of fairness in dealing with others
Right is restoring the love for our brothers - wherever and whoever they may be

This country cannot survive another four years like the eight just passed. It’s time to put away divisiveness and work together, rebuild the fabric of this country, so that the people of this country can stand proudly and proclaim, “We are American”.

Just an update

Well, we’re all still sick.

Not as bad as we were, but still...

I was laid up yesterday with a nasty stomach bug that kept me out today as well. I’ll be back at work tomorrow.

We went to York to see angstgirl’s foks. Fun trip. it would have been more fun if we hadn’t been sick. Do you see a trend here? :)

Also in good news, I got a raise and a bonus! Rah for us. Also, we move into a new apartment on the 21st. It’ll be nice to see that new TV up on the mantle..

In the meantime, we’ll be packin’ and cleanin’.

Babygirl is *awesome* as always :) and momma is too!

Other than that, not much else to report.

Ta ta for now!

Weekly wrap-up

Well, so here it is, the end of my vacation.

Let’s tally, shall we?

Sick for the sixth day in a row.

Even better, I have NO voice.

Company party on Friday was awesome. And when I say awesome, i mean lame.

Played on the computer all week. Even managed to do a little music. Wouldn’t have minded going outside for a spell, but hey, I guess it’s better than nothing.

Watched the Steelers play. Bleh.

Oh yeah... the upside. Leveled my hunter 22. Go me :)

Other upside: we think we may have a plan to at least help with our daycare funding. Let y’all know how it goes...

So yeah, back to work tomorrow. Yay.
